What is eutrophication?

You’ve learned that dissolved substances and pollution are carried downstream in a watershed.


 
Pollution carried by the warm freshwater river plume can affect marine life off the New Jersey coast.

 
If pollution persists in shallow bays for a long time, a process may occur that creates areas with very low oxygen. Marine life need oxygen in the water in order to survive.
