Land Use in the Hudson River Watershed
When rain falls in a watershed, it can pick up and carry dissolved substances and sediment from the land.
Scientists study how humans use the land to determine the kinds of effects humans might have on the watersheds they live in.
This image shows some of the different kinds of ways humans use the land in the Hudson River Watershed. Different land uses have different effects on freshwater flow and the amount of sediments and pollution that will end up in the ocean.
