Surface Water Flow in Watershed

 

So as we have seen, when it rains, much of the water in a watershed runs off the surface and into rivers.

 

These rivers, like the Hudson River, carry all that freshwater to the ocean where large freshwater plumes can form. And those plumes can even be seen from outer space!

 

But why is studying plumes so important?
